Val Venosta is a unique hiking area. Hundreds of kilometres of well signposted hiking trails and mountain tours are waiting for you. The lush green Monte Tramontana with its extensive forests and the steppe-like Monte Sole with numerous animal and plant species that are unusual for the Alpine region have a panorama that leaves no eye dry. Traditional mountain pasture huts and typical farm taverns invite you to stay and enjoy.

In a valley surrounded by high mountains like Val Venosta, lifts are simply a must. Cable cars and chair lifts take you comfortably up to Monte Sole or Monte Tramontana. The Laces lift facilities for quick ascents take hikers to the most beautiful hikes and the car can stay in the garage. The San Martino in Monte cable car and the Malga di Tarres chair lift allow hikers to reach the hiking areas in just a few minutes. After an extensive hike, take a leisurely rest in one of the numerous refreshment places such as the Malga di Laces and Malga di Tarres mountain huts or the Oberkaser and Oberratschillhof farms.

In Val Martello, at the entrance to which Morter is located, you can enjoy a variety of tours through the Stelvio National Park, from leisurely walks to high alpine three-thousanders. Lake Gioveretto, whose circuit is a popular family hike and whose wall can be used for climbing, delights hikers' spirits just as much as the crisp ascents to the many high-altitude excursion destinations and mountain huts such as Rifugio Nino Corsi, Rifugio Martello or the Lyfi and Soy mountain huts. Four impressive buildings have been erected to discover the Plima Gorge and its beauty and make it a first-time experience.

A dense network of irrigation channels paths runs through Val Venosta and the area around Merano. The hiking trails along the old watercourses were once used to maintain Val Venosta’s artificial irrigation channels (called Waale), but today they offer the opportunity to walk along gently winding paths off the beaten track and to be enchanted by splashing water, fresh forest air and a magnificent view of the valley.

STELVIO NATIONAL PARK

In the Stelvio National Park, you can truly experience nature between 700 m in the valley and over 3900 m above sea level. The nature experiences in the lower elevations, meadows and woods lead, the further up you go, to a lonely and quiet landscape, broken only by the warm sunrays and the whistles of the marmots.
